The Distant Hills And Other Stories by Kaje Harper

Author Note

I’ve always loved writing short stories, riffing on a photo prompt or random idea or lurking plot bunny. For a decade, I’ve been posting Young Adult short stories on my Goodreads Young Adult LGBT Books group monthly, and when I started an author Facebook Group, that was a logical place to post stories that are not YA.

For the most part, the things I post online are unedited, unproofread, just for fun. Intended as a pleasure for me and a little gift for the group. But as the number of stories grew, (over 90 now,) group members asked for a collection of their favorites— something they could read on an e-reader or in paper, with easier searching than the unpredictable randomization of FB.

This collection includes group favorites, and a few favs of my own, plus the unpublished short stories for Life Lessons and Changes. I did have these stories edited and they’re proofread, but they remain at heart something just for fun between us. A huge thank you to everyone who read these on the group, commented, asked for more, and encouraged me to release this collection.

Here are thirty stories, mostly contemporary but with a mix of genres included. Main characters range from teens to seniors, and they’re low on heat, high on love, but sometimes with more serious themes— there are content warnings at the end of the author note for some stories.

I hope readers enjoy these brief adventures with the characters who live in my imagination. Join me on my Facebook Group – Kaje’s Conversation Corner– for more Sunday Stories.
